Last night I got a somewhat suspicious email. Although I usually call bullshit when I receive insider information, tracking down the person who sent it opened a shitload of doors. I don't plan on posting the entire content of the email because it could easily identify the sender, however it corrects a good chunk of information we have here. Home: Land of a Thousand Errors

It's been a while since I've sat down and picked apart the latest bugs in Home. So Here goes.

Before that, I'd like to make mention once more that Home staff makes no efforts to communicate with it's users about bugs. This topic asks why there's no communication, which is truly an irritation. Of course Popeye the Hometroll Man dropped his 2 cents:

All last week the Home Managers have been at E3. There are pictures of them at E3 posted in PlayStation Home General. The Head Moderator of Home stood in for them relaying information. And then we had this last weekend.

The Managers are now back and are starting to post again. They have some catching up to do. There is no reason to insult or cop an attitude. Just keep your problem at the forefront so that it can be taken care of. Your problem will very likely be addressed or fixed by next Thursday.

Ok good point. Except E3 was 3 days, not a week. Oh, and Home staff has never, ever, ever, EVER made an effort to speak about bugs. But anyways. More bugs.

Home says: FUCK YOU CANADA (Again)

In the past we have made effort to expose Home's bias towards the Canadian people. I think We've done it once or twice.... or three, four, maybe five times.

Well it's time for another episode of:

HOME HATES CANADA!

Over the last 24 hours I've gotten four emails from Canadians about their Canadian based topics being removed. In this time of World Cup, it's a possibility someone over there is a bit bias towards the threat to American spirit. First there was this topic, Canada's Top Avatar. This is in the long line of folks who have created these types of topics, however only the Canadian one has been closed. Then there was the "O Canada Dance Party" which was shoveled off to the Clubs & Events graveyard. Then there's this topic. Oh, and this topic. Honestly I could post links all day, but I think the point has been driven.

This is especially insulting to the top half of North America due to the fact that CANADIANS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN HOME EVENTS OR CONTESTS. Please, if you have an example of this constant Canadian bias, please email us to let us know.

Sony San Diego - What are you looking for?

I noticed Sony's San Diego Online branch poking around the blog. Searching for the terms: atsivaluhc, ramled, and ogeidnas. A quick trip to the ps3 browser found that all three of these are user names. A quick google search discovered they are Home mods. Three we were unaware of. Thanks San Diego, we'll correct this by adding them to the blog.

Patch 1.36: FAIL!

Honestly, this is just..I don't know whether it's funny or sad or what. But as most (if not all) of you will soon come to find, when trying to update Home to 1.36, rather than updating, it'll just reset your PS3. So before I even tried patching mine (I actually for got until I saw this), I saw this on Twitter:

What?! A "workaround"? Haha, are you serious? Basically, for some reason, if you try hitting X to start the install process, it will just reset your PS3. What you have to do is wait for the HDD light to not be lit up anymore. They say wait for it to stop blinking, but mine was just lit up solid, and the time it took for me to wait for the light to go off was similar to the time it takes to load into Home. Oh, and the patch is on 5210KB.

Anyways, here's what the patch is supposed to do:

Patch Notes Improvements

• We have reduced the time Home takes to start up. After installing and loading the patch for the first time, subsequent loads will be significantly quicker from then on.
• We’ve also improved the 3D audio positioning for stereo and 5.1 surround sound.

Bug fixes

• Fixed a bug that could cause large files to be improperly cached.
• Fixed a bug that would prevent you from changing the size of the cache under certain circumstances.
• Fixed a bug that could cause a crash when taking photographs.

It does seem to be faster jumping from space to space, but the initial start-up is still pretty slow.

Problem? Delete!

I've noticed a trend on the PlayStation Home Support Forums. (Other then the complete and total lack of help by staff) It seems the catch all answer to any tech support issue is to delete Home and reinstall it. Which to me sounds like one of the stupidest concepts ever. Even stupider due to the fact that it actually works. Imagine if you replaced Home with Windows or MacOS. Imagine any time you had an error you went to a poorly coded tech support forum, which resembled forums of the late 1990s. Upon asking a question of any kind, no matter the error another USER (Not Microsoft or Apple's staff) told you "It can be fixed in two steps. Just delete your operating system and reinstall it." Home has the laziest tech support of any program found on a gaming console. Here's our suggestion, next time you have a problem with Home, delete it. Then just skip step two.

Beardless Wonder

Beardless? That could be due to one of this weeks Home failures, which is fucking up the Obi-Wan outfit.

Today I bought the Obi-Wan Tunic and Armor Bundle, everything is in my inventory except the beard. I shall wait a week or two before I start feeling ripped off, in hopes that it will appear. Please, can the powers that lead, look into this.

Stalkers and Harassment

I am so sick and tired of being stalked and harassed on Home. I have reported several people for this and still they continue to do it. Something has to be done. Mods are never around and they are totally out of hand. This user is constantly stalking me on Home. I have reported her more than once and she is constantly doing it. It is impossible for people to enjoy Home when they are constantly being stalked and harassed. I have her on block and it doesn't help one bit she is still doing. Please do something about this person. It like she don't give a darn about Sony terms of service and I'm highly upset that nothing is being done about it.

Another reason to avoid spending money on Home: (Edited for spelling and grammar)

Two days ago it took me an HOUR on the phone to straighten it this out. Apparently my acct got put on hold because I made several single purchases in "PlayStation Home" for myself. PlayStation took it upon themselves to flag my account due to my card possibly being stolen, but not bother to contact me about it. After three days of my account being on hold I spent an hour on the phone i was finally able to to log back in. Today i log in and ALL MY PURCHASES ARE GONE!!! (Two apartments, furniture, outfits and other items) I called them back today about all my stuff being missing and they tell me its not their problem and i have to contact moderators in this FORUM to get my PURCHASED ITEMS BACK. I find this very wrong and annoying.

Will someone please explain this madness and tell me how to get my stuff back?

Bond Denied For Sexual Exploitation Suspect

I've been following this case as well, and I noticed that this little factoid wasn't posted: Judge Calls Alexander 'Risk To Community'

OKLAHOMA CITY -- A federal judge denied bond Monday morning for a Florida woman charged with sending obscene material to a minor.

Annamay Alexander, 44, met the 14-year-old boy while playing a Sony Playstation 3 game online. Police said Alexander drove from Florida to Oklahoma City to meet the boy at least once.

She was arrested last Wednesday by U.S. Marshals in Wichita Falls, Texas.

The boy's mother was in court Monday and told a reporter from Eyewitness News 5 that she is relieved Alexander is being denied bond. The mother left the courtroom surrounded by family, and she appeared to be upset.

An attorney representing Alexander argued that his client should be allowed to bond out of jail, suggesting she wear a GPS monitoring device.

Alexander is charged with transferring obscene material to a minor, two counts of sexual exploitation of a child and travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor.

LOL rednecks. But this isn't really why I'm posting this. The reason I found this interesting is that it appears in the comments surrounding the news article, someone posted who appears to be the mother of the victim:

Okiemainer, my son played games with her family. She has sons around my son's age. Her family had multiple playstations and different family members played games with him at the same time. We believed he was talking to her teenage daughter on the phone. I asked questions about them. I believed what I was told. I was foolish not neglectful. I was upset after court because I didn't know some of the details that I found out today. I don't want your sympathy. I don't have any for me either just for him.

Mom Speaks Out In Stalking Case

This news article states:

Oklahoma City woman is speaking out about the Florida woman accused of arranging an encounter with her teenage son through an online video game and having sex with him. The woman, whose name is not being used to protect her son's identity, said she thought her son was playing video games with Annamay Alexander's children. She said she later found out that Alexander had taken her son to a motel for sex."He was innocent and she stole it from him," the woman said. Police said Alexander, 44, was a married mother of three when the case started. The teenage boy's mother said Alexander introduced him to members of her family. "He met the husband, the mother and children," the woman said. She said the friendship escalated and items soon began to arrive in the mail. First, there were birthday gifts, like a NASCAR T-shirt. Later, the boy received written love notes." At this point, I started getting suspicious," the mother said. "She referred to herself as his wife." Police said she had a tattoo with the boy's name on it. Police said Alexander later left her family to drive to Oklahoma to meet the boy. The mother said she remembers the day she woke up and found his room empty. "The video game was on and the volume was up, and it sounds like he was playing video games," the woman said. "But he wasn't there. "She said her son later told her that Alexander had picked him up. According to a police report, the boy said Alexander took him to a motel. "I said, 'Did you have sex with her?' And he said yes," she said. "I asked him if he'd used protection and he said, 'What is that?' "She said she began to dig through text messages and video game chat sessions, finding messages like one that said, "My body is yours to do whatever you want with." She said she also found suggested photographs. "I saw pictures of her only in a bra," the woman said.She called police and Alexander fled, investigators said. She was arrested last week in Wichita Falls, Texas. Police said she will remain in federal custody until her trial on four counts of sexual exploitation of a child.The woman said her son has returned to school and is working with health care professionals to try to put the experience behind him.She said she spoke out in order to alert other families."If this can happen to my son, it can happen to other people's," she said.

Some of you will be aware that I have been away for a week, I posted a couple of threads a day or two ago mostly relating to the amount of hassle my wife received from the immature brainless idiots that flock around the women on PS HOME, she must have received 15-20 friend requests as well as some horrible PM's.

While I was way my wife explained that one day she was in the bowling alley & it became obvious that a father was teaching his child, a girl how to play bowling, well it didn't take long before they were heckled, the father was told to **bleep** off pop pop & some of them went behind the young girl & did that dance that looks like its simulating sex from behind, my wife said it was disgusting, the other players all stuck up for the father & his daughter & apologized for them & said its not always like this, unfortunately this kind of childish behavior is becoming all to frequent.

You may wonder what all this has to do with the picture above, well I'll tell you, not 5 minutes before I was warned for my language, by the way all that happened was I got a bad split & I typed in oh **bleep**, exactly like that with the * too, that was why i was warned, anyway not 5 minutes before all this there was an idiot crouching down in front of anything that moved, mostly women, but sometimes the men too, he was horrible & offensive, where was the bloody MOD when there is 'REAL' trouble going on.

Do me a favor MOD, go after the 'REAL' offenders, not people like me who did nothing to offend anyone.

Sorry rant over, but I needed to get that off my chest.

PS3 Home: I'd Rather Be Homeless

According to this awesome article:

PS3 Home, probably one of the most hyped features that Sony had to offers consumers who were considering, or regretting, buying a PS3.

Perhaps the most anticipated feature, for me at least, was the addition of trophies, the fabled trophy rooms, and the mythical trophy rewards. Sadly, besides the addition of trophies, none of this came into fruition.

You open Home, still having to look at that sad blue icon reading "Beta" on it. Then after an annoying amount of loading you enter your character customization, which might be the only fun part of the entire experience.

You check out some of the stores, only to find their wares limited, and costly. One could spend $100 without breaking a sweat to make your house and yourself presentable. Why not give us a few freebies? How much is a digital sofa or T-shirt really going to cost you if you give it out for free? Instead, you say forget the superfluous stuff, let me get to the real point of this...game isn't the right term...application? Go out into the main square, or the movie theater, or the bowling alley, or the few game specific rooms that are available, you are sure to be disappointed. There is simply nothing to do. There is no reward for "playing". The new Sodium Space is a step forward, but it is nowhere near enough to make Home worth even mentioning.

Overall, Home has been an incredible disappointment. We hardly hear of any upcoming news for it, and what we have right now is nowhere near entertaining. The question is, will Sony ever make an effort to correct the disaster that is Home?

The Lack of Creativity. . .

So... This AvsP 'event' is the 5th or so dance off on NA Home. I think a dance off every now and then is fine, but the majority of ALL our events have been dance offs. Not to mention all these events are only being held in Central Plaza, when Home has a variety of spaces to choose from. Even if home was prohibited to only use core spaces of Home for events... we have the gamers lounge, the mall, the bowling alley, numberous theaters, etc.. We even have the presentation podium, that can make its return during events or something.

Most of these events were given rewards for participating. Kudos. However this 'event' doesnt. So not only are we particiapating in an event that is basically the same thing as most other events on NA Home, we're encouraged to buy these $$ costumes for the event with no reward granted. Hell... I cant even be with my friends at this event because my PS3 just froze up 5 times after accepting an invite to different central plazas. This is damaging my hardware shutting my system on and off like that. Please, make events worth while, The lack of creativity really has me wondering 'Why'.

Suggestions for future events:

1. Events around Home in different spaces, not just central plaza.

2. RPG style events like that of our friendly neighborhood Japan Home.

3. Events that dont consist of Free vs Paid/Paid vs Paid items by "dancing off"

4. Something BIG, like the Xi event. That event had the forums active and more users involved.

5. How about an event that requires us to obtain unlockable items from the games around home, and use them to access other parts of home, to complete another challenge. For example, you need the echochrome outfit to access theater 5, which gives directions on what to do next, etc...

Get creative Home! Dance-offs are getting played out, seriously. At least give us more dance emotes if we have to endure more 'dance-off' events than something more creative.

That said, we do encourage everyone always to "think outside the box" and throw different types of events in different spaces. And until we get an events space, Central Plaza IS our best events space! But keep throwing out your ideas, we love them!

Annamay Alexander caught & charged

A Deltona woman was arrested this week in Texas and brought to Oklahoma by the U.S. Marshals Service to face federal charges that she sent obscene material to a 14-year-old boy there and intended to have sex with him, according to a four-count federal indictment.

Annamay Alexander, 44, who is also known as Annamay Cherry, was arrested Wednesday in Wichita Falls, Texas. During a federal court appearance Thursday in Oklahoma, she was denied bail until a detention hearing Monday.

Alexander, the mother of three, is charged with transferring obscene material to minors, two counts of sexual exploitation of children and travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor. If convicted she could spend up to 30 years in prison, according to the United States District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma.

Oklahoma City police have been searching for Alexander since February.

Alexander met the teenager through a Sony Playstation 3 virtual reality game over the Internet that allows players to interact with one another through electronic representations of themselves, according to Oklahoma City police spokeswoman Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow in a videotaped news conference.

The local newspaper, The Oklahoman, reported that the victim's mother awoke Jan. 9 to find her son gone. When he returned, Alexander was with him.

The paper reported that Oklahoma City Police Detective Robert Kemmet wrote in an affidavit: "Alexander told the mother the victim intended to marry her daughter and she wanted to talk to him about it, but did not mention her daughter is 9 years old."

Police reported Alexander returned two days later, and the victim's mother also intercepted two telephone calls to her son from Alexander.

According to the paper, Kemmet also wrote that on Feb. 10, the victim's mother found multiple text and photo messages from Alexander on her son's cell phone, including one that said, "My body is yours to do whatever you want with."

A photo of Alexander in her underwear was also found on the victim's Playstation console, according to Kemmet's affidavit. She referred to herself as the 14-year-old's wife and used his last name in notes and messages to him.

Michael Scott Alexander filed for divorce from Annamay this year and the dissolution of marriage was granted March 1.

13 year olds on Home

So waaaaaaay back in December a friend of ours promised to show the world what it was like to look through the eyes of a 13 year old girl on her first day on Home. Well, he lagged for months and finally sent the pictures in. What he saw actually surprised me.... and disgusted me. These were the rules he went by:

1. No starting conversations, only speaking to people who speak to Amanda first.
2. No talking about sex or sexually related topics. Kids should be protected from such.
3. Mark down observations of sex, violence & inappropriate conversations for a young kid.

Say hello to "AmandaSmith1997." She is a 13 year old girl, and this is her first day on Home.

First off, why is an account set to a kid being hit with advertisements for violent movies? This was the first ad seen upon entering Central Plaza.

Two guys got into a tug of war match over which one was Amanda's boyfriend. Amanda didn't talk to nor request any type of relationship. These were two strangers walking up to her in Central Plaza.

If you're older then 13 this is a laughable threat. But this could be really frightening to a young kid.

So bottom line? Home is not safe, nor an appropriate place for young kids. Home needs to be redone as a 18+ platform for social gaming. How is it that we can capture so many instances of MODs harassing people for using bad words, (That no one can see) however they cannot protect a 13 year old girl hanging out in the areas with the most traffic? Especially being harassed by sexual predators, insulted, blasted with violent movie ads, and even had guys "claim ownership" of her. 13+ huh? Time to reconsider.

PlayStation.Blog Meetup; How it went for most -- [UPDATE]

It appears if you're not an "elite", "power user", "leet" (or whatever you want to call them), or have one on your friends list, then you needn't have bothered attempting to fight your way into Screen Room 6. I even have some "power users" (I think that's the official term for leets) on my friends list and by the time I was able to make it into the apparent room where the Special Guests were, they were gone -- along with the code to download the special belt GlassWalls was sporting in the picture that was on the PS.Blog (and also a few articles down, here).

You see, what they forgot to mention was, they would be giving out a code (a single code I believe) that had a certain amount times it could be used until it was rendered void, much like past events. Except in those events, there were multiple codes throughout a longer period of time. You know, so people would actually have a chance to get the reward.

After little while in Screen Room 6, the Official Guests moved on to the Central Plaza to hang out for the remainder of the event.

Now, the main reasons I think people are upset are:

• 1.) People thought, "Everyone who shows up to Screen Room 6 will automatically be rewarded the special belt." Which is perfectly understandable because that's the impression they gave off on the PS.Blog when they were talking about it. They didn't say, "Those lucky enough to have power users on their friends list AND jump to them before the lobby fills up AND write down the code, log off Home, go to the PS Store and download it before it expires!. . . Will receive said belt."

• 2.) They never said they would be moving on to the Central Plaza before hand. So unless you follow @SonyPlaystation on Twitter, you wouldn't have known that they moved on to the Central Plaza an hour after the event started. So those that really wanted the belt buckle and hung out for the full 2 hours in Screen Room 6, spent an extra our in there for nothing. If you didn't know about that before reading this, you might be upset now.

I, myself, tried jumping to a few friends who were able to get into the "Special" instance but was not successful until after the Special Guests had already moved on. So once I got in and learned about the code (which had already been used up within one hour, maybe less) and watched the Whole video that was playing, I left Home. Even though I knew there was a chance I could catch them in the Central Plaza. Oh, and watching the full video that was playing in Screen Room 6 will net you a free shirt with a platinum trophy on the front and "PlayStation.blog" written on the back. Which they also neglected to even mention that you can get a free shirt and how to get it. At least you folks now know, if you didn't already.

So another event bites the dust. There's got to be a better way to do these kinds of things where it'll be somewhat fair to everyone. I mean, I understand that Special Guests can't be in every single instance, but the least they could do is make item give aways available to everyone who wasted their time on said event.

Hopefully the belt will become available to download and hopefully it will remain free. Hopefully a lot of people will bitch about it (like I'm doing now) so that it'll happen. Hopefully...
