So recently I bought an iBook G4 1.33 GHz 12" in very good condition with a new genuine Apple battery and two genuine power supplies for € 150, not a bad deal I think.

Anyway, it has the stock Toshiba 4200 rpm hard drive and had 512 MB RAM when I purchased it. I've upgraded it to 768 MB RAM afterwards. At the moment it runs Tiger, but I think it's time to move on to Leopard mainly because ClicktoFlash for Tiger does not allow me to play YouTube videos with the QuickTime Player anymore and I can't find an alternative.

I've tried Leopard on it and it was not slow, but it felt not "smooth". I think the slow hard drive causes the pretty long app launch times and the sometimes sluggish feel.

Is it worth it to upgrade the hard disk to a modern 5400 rpm model, like the Samsung HM160HC? I don't do heavy duty stuff on the iBook, but when I use it I want it to run as fast as possible. Will this hard drive make Leopard run smoother?

I also plan on upgrading the memory to 1 GB, I can get a 512 stick from a friend.

What are your thoughts, is it a waste of money or will the upgrades make a noticeable difference? I have a retail Leopard dvd, so at least I don't have to buy that. ;)

Hey uknick, firstly welcome to MacRumors ;)

Yeah, I'm going to wait and order mine. I'm not rushing in to it. I'll order mine online also, unless I have good reason to pop in to town and buy the iPad2 from the local Bristol store. I'm still wondering if I really need it or not. Still deciding, but temptation is strong!

Interesting to see that the key-visual (bunch of TV screens rotating) they use actually comes from the Apple TV starting animation and yet, there was no news on it.....:(

Apple rodents were better in those days :( Although I'm pretty certain I've used generic PC mice ever since I first had a Mac with a USB port. I never did fit into the single mouse button mindset.

Even if the ball did need cleaning in the hockey puck, at least you could do so easily. Most of the Mighty Mice I meet won't scroll up any more, and I never could get used to having to lift my left finger off the mouse to right click. My dad got fed up and disassembled his to clean it out properly the other day, but I'm sure it'll stop working again within a few weeks. :(

I didn't know they had vinyl banners, those are cool. I have a couple of the Think Different posters: Picasso and Earhart. Nabbed 'em right off the wall from my old work immediately after they went out of business- yoink! :D

Started to play sc2 on my 15 mbp, and noticed this thing gets pretty hot, and since i play for a while every session i wanted to get a laptop cooler.

I've read reviews and looked at comparisons but i still don't know whether to choose

    or

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834997730

    or is there anything better?

Possible but it would seem odd that apple would update the Mac Pro line twice within 2 weeks. I say this because I would expect the Mac Pro to be the first system to get Blu-Ray. Customers who bought the updated Mac Pros since CES would have an even greater reason to feel shafted than the iPhone people did with the price drop.
Apple does not have to offer new hardware.
They support many camera formats without manufacturing cameras by themselves.
They should offer OsX (10.5.2?) software support for bd/hdcp and update for Dvd Studio Pro, which had last update before intel-macs... was it 2005...?

MP owners can buy new drive by themselves. That's what upgradeability means.

This whole "we want consumers to rent from iTunes, so we are not going to support new optical hd formats" thing cripples FCS badly, so pro's will be looking to adobe's offer instead.

I'm waiting to see if it's region free.

I plan on buying one from Play-asia with Dance Central, Kinectimals, Joy Ride & Kinect Sports as Asian version is only 28 as opposed to 50 here. USA version's are region free - so I'm hopeful.

Though i also bought Playstation Move = that's pretty much doing nothing with my Wii for company at the moment.

to me the PS3 move is just the same as the Wii remote but with a camera instead of sensors.

Whilst I appreciate that you have to have Ads on the site to generate revenue, there have been a few that pop up during the last few weeks with sound in them (I've attached an image of one such ad).

I actually make Flash based Ads from time to time and the guidelines are always clear that sound shouldn't be playing without either a rollover event or a user interaction.

I don't suppose you can removed/do something about these...they're really ruining my Pink Floyd.

    Cheers!

Edit: Just seen another thread on this...sorry, I didn't check before posting.

Question about incase slider, is it as bad with bubbling up screen protectors as I've heard? The case is EXACTLY what I've been looking for but I NEED a screen protector. I've been looking at the power source hd anti glare.

definitely terrible. For sure won't work with anything other than a crystal screen protector (since everything else is thicker) and its gotta be good quality thats cut basically perfect. (cheapies will not work 99% of the time) and youll prolly have to apply the shield with the case on unless u got lucky or did a really good job.

incase slider is a great case tho.

    Fine, fine. *envy*

Damn, always playing catch up. When i used wireframes, everyone was using flat shading. When i reached there, everyone was using texture mapped gourauds and phongs. After that was ray-tracing and now when i have implemented it with soft shadows, everyone is using path-tracing and derivatives. And my editor uses steam power. It took years to make.

Feel like Janina. (It's a Pin-Up. Model over 18 and in Finland pigtails no toddler make)

What kind of movie would you be watching where it would be useful to be hands free? :p

    Nice dude. Made me laugh....

They couldn't have designed their own clips? It looks like someone just modded a hat with some supplies from Staples. It's functional I guess, but not very nice looking. And you would think that the magnifying glass so close to your eyes would cause some vision damage with prolonged use.

All I can say is, Made you look ;-)

Then the article served its purpose. Until advertisers stop paying for page views and start paying only for click throughs this click baiting crap will continue. Posting links to this kind of stuff only makes it worse. Summarize or post the article here, with attribution, if you actually think it is worth comment.

heh. lack of user support? more like too much support from the warez community... ;) http://mugget.com/web_images/twisted.gif

if you dont' know what really happened to it, dig up the whole story, very interesting, amusing and scary all at the same time. :D

it's probably unrealistic to expect a product that has massive appeal to the warez types not to be cracked and then freely distributed.

do you have any links to "the whole story"? I did some Google digging and I didn't get anywhere. thanks.
