It’s World AIDS Day(1st December), this month is more than just wearing the red ribbon on your chest, as a part of the community and supporting the effort that people do to raise awareness about AIDS, thegossipgeek/TAYLOR is doing a little public service announcement to help raise awareness to my blog reader…
AIDS is caused by HIV virus which is transmitted from human to human via body fluid contact, e.g. semen, blood, vaginal fluid, etc.
HIV is transmitted through various ways including:
- Sexual intercourse
- Blood transfusion using contaminated blood
- sharing of needles
- piercing and tattooing with unsterilized utensils
What to do if you’re infected?
- There’s no way of telling a person is infected with HIV or not except by blood test, so go check yourself.
- The test used antibody test to check for CD4, antibody produced by the body when HIV had infect the person. The CD4 level can only be detected at least 3 months after infection. So go do the test 3 months after the date you think you’re infected.
- When the virus enter the host (you!) for the first time, the host will get flu symptoms which last for weeks and disappear long after that, the virus is not dormant during this time but it is invading the lymph node and destroying the immune system.
- When doing the test, find health practitioner that’ll give you counselling, most people don’t know what to do when they find out they’re HIV-positive.
How to avoid getting infection?
- The safest way is to stay away from sex, practice monogamy…
- practice safe sex
- don’t share needles
- verify that the blood is not contaminated when doing blood transfusion
Do Something… Make a difference
