I guess the White House invitations got lost in the mail??

Last week President Obama held a meeting with some well known black bloggers at the White House. I can only assume he was trying to get the bloggers to help him get his message out. You know, Democrats are Good and Republicans are Bad. Sounds like it might have been a good idea in theory but once again the White House fell short. My mama thinks that I’m too hard on Obama and that my generation doesn’t know real racism.

Side Note: I want to make a martial arts movie with my mom fighting Christian Ninjas from the Religious Right. It can be a cartoon because my mother doesn’t really know martial arts. I want to call it “The Dueling Bibles.”

Mama will be happy to know that this fiasco was not Obama’s fault. He has a lot of incompetent people surrounding him. Unfortunately they all look good on paper because they have Ivy League degrees (aka Smart Folks). But Mr. Ed looked smart when he put on glasses too.

If you are wondering what the problem is, that means you don’t know much about blogging. And that’s okay because this is what we in America call “A Teachable Moment (no beers or salty nuts included).”

Business

Lifestyle/Fashion

Celebrity Gossip

Sports

Technology

Political


Now which of these blog types definitely shouldn’t have received an invitation to the White House to discuss politics?

That’s correct – Celebrity Gossip

People are struggling financially, we are fighting war after war and politicians are on the take from corporations. And the White House invites bloggers that write about the sex lives of entertainers?! I know it’s exciting to get bloggers that have huge followings. But that shouldn’t be the determining factor for real dialogue. To let you know - I have nothing against celebrity gossip blogs. I believe there is enough room for all of us. I work my side of the street and they work their side. But too many bloggers were left off that list. Bloggers that would have asked the tough questions and not be a rubberstamp for the president. And I’m not saying that people that were invited were going to be rubberstamps. But Obama needs to answer some questions before folks take marching orders.

Apparently nothing constructive came out of the meeting because all you keep hearing was how messy it was.

Side Note to the White House: The next time you want to keep the details of what you discuss private. Don’t invite bloggers that write about gossip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alabama, we get your message!! But don’t leave us just yet!

That rugged untamed frontier known as Alabama is done with playing nice. Alabamians are pissed off and they aren’t going to take it anymore. They are willing to defend their state and country in order to protect the sanctity that was envisioned by their founding forefathers. And it appears that they will do this by any means necessary. The ads that some Alabama candidates are running all express the theme of independence and the defense of liberty. Other ads involving building schools, fixing roads and finding alternative fuel resources aren’t tough enough to compete with these ads. These are real men that are demanding a call for action. And if any bureaucrat (current bureaucrats mind you, not the bureaucrats that the candidates that are currently running for office will become if they get elected) gets in their way they will be in serious trouble. Candidates requesting a call to arms against tyranny, shooting at anyone that disagrees with them and demanding an English speaking state usually means on thing.


Alabama is going to secede from the Union!!!!


I know it hasn’t been all that great for Alabama but I never would have thought we would end up here. Sure Alabama has a smudge in the history books for their view on slavery and Jim Crow. And yes they fell down in college football for a period of time. But why would they leave now? They just had the first African America Heisman Trophy winner in the University of Alabama history. You have Charles Barkley as a native son and a Toyota Plant in Huntsville. A black NBA player that likes white women and a Japanese car company on American soil sounds progressive to me!! And from the ad you can tell the Rick Barber is sincerely concerned about slavery. I’m sure he must have a diverse coalition working within his campaign.

Don’t leave us Alabama!!! Without the Federal Government who will help you clean up future oil spills on your shores? And who will help you when Hurricanes destroy your homes? Sure being alone will be fun at first but you will miss us. Miss Alabama will have to compete in the Miss America Pageant as a territory (if they let you). Ask Miss Puerto Rico what it feels like to live in a commonwealth of the U.S.? And instead of using the U.S. Dollar are you going to go back to confederate states of America currency? Try spending that money at J.J.’s Rib Shack while passing through Atlanta and see what happens. Alabama has an important role in filling the gap between Georgia and Mississippi. We can’t count on any other state to fill that need. How would New Jersey look taking Alabama’s place? “Jersey Shore” would look a lot different with confederate flags and tanning beds. Let’s hope that this is just a few rouge individuals and not the consensus. If there is a state that has to leave, let it be Arizona. They will be alright by themselves as you can see below:

Well Black in America is finally in the books. That was it folks!! That was not a good ending at all but it’s not Tyler Perry’s fault. I know that Soledad has been catching a lot of flak since the first BIA, but she’s not the problem. Soledad’s momma might have some black in her but that’s where it ends. To be able to pull something off like this, you have to have a real black person doing it. I know that’s not going to sit well with some folks. But it’s true!!! Someone who knows the black experience firsthand would know how to craft this series. Soledad looked and sounded like someone that was learning all this for the first time. Does that mean that Flavor Flav should have been the host? No!! But Ed Gordon is a name that does come to mind. I will say that her intent was worthy but the execution was flawed.





So people won’t say that I’m complaining without giving solutions. Black in America should have been rolled out in this format:

The 60’s (Civil Rights)

The 70’s (Black Power Movement)



To understand where we are, we need to know where we came from. This will set the tone for the rest of the series. Let’s face it. They don’t teach black history in school these days anyway. That’s why you have black folks running around thinking RACISM is a myth. And white folks thinking that RACISM is dead. I also would have showed every invention and creation that black folks have made in America.



The 80’s (including the Reagan Administration and the Crack Epidemic)

The 90’s (What was really going on with Blacks under the Clinton Administration)

The 00’s





Don’t get me wrong because I still would have kept it real. I just would have had more of a balance. I would have given the numbers and statistics for black men in jail. On the flip side I would have had a black man that came out of prison and made it. I would have talked about unwed mothers, people shacking up, and low marriage rates. On the flip side I would have had single female college students, people engaged and stable marriages. It’s all about balance. You would see a kid that couldn’t read but you never knew why? No one ever asked their parents any questions. Is it that momma and daddy can’t read as well? Everything just seemed so hopeless!!! And when you did see someone or a family doing well, it always looked like a fluke. It seemed as though it was an exception and not the rule. I went to a Historical Black University so I’ve seen black men graduate with degrees. It’s not abnormal but a non-black person looking at Black in America would think it was. Because that’s who this really was for.





This was for everyone else in America to get a better understanding of black folks. Unfortunately the images that they saw were skewed. Even black folks watching don’t know what they were looking at. I heard a guy call Al Sharpton’s radio show today complaining about the Bougie black folks on the segment last night. So after watching the piece, he came away with a class issue!!! Really??? I made my bougie jokes but they were just jokes. I don’t have a problem with them doing a segment on Tyler Perry. I would have done a piece on successful black entrepreneurs as well (We Made It!!!! “yelling in my P Diddy voice). But I would never close out on Tyler Perry. It made it look like he was the zenith for all of black America. He’s doing big things but call me when he doesn’t have to go through Lions Gate to show his movies.





This should have been a series that united black folks (check out my fellow bloggers opinions Aunt Jemima’s Revenge & Ripp Dem Up). It should have given us the resolve to keep pushing on. This should have given us pride in our country (even though we have a shaky relationship with it) and our fellow blacks. What we got was a disjointed series that didn’t live up to the hype.

I have mixed reviews on everything that I was able to watch tonight. I really don’t get the Africa segment. I believe it took the focus off of what’s going on in America. Black folks know that we got it bad all over. Maybe that was new to other people watching tonight. I am glad that they showed a balance tonight with our black youth. I missed the last 30 minutes due to Thunder, Lightning and Such. Or was it the MAN??? Tonight’s grade is a C+. It was a lot better than the first Black in America.
