Old black folks robbing our black youth - another example of a “civil rights” politician that should retire.

Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson, from the 30th Congressional District of Texas, got caught slipping last week. She had awarded thousands of dollars in Congressional Black Caucus scholarships to her relatives (i.e. grandchildren, grand nephews). Her excuse: she didn’t know it was wrong! I know you are probably thinking that she must be a first term congresswoman to not know this. Sike!! This chick has been in office since 1993!!! I was a Sophomore in college when she got her gig in D.C. I am now in my late 30’s and she is still in office!! And she has the nerve to talk about she didn’t know???

*Side Note* Still don’t think we need Term Limits for Politicians???

Well if she didn’t know the media did!! In July, I did a post on The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation. It was obvious from the piece that they wanted to avoid anything that made them look shady. The foundation’s general counsel, Amy Goldson, came out saying that Johnson violated the rules. So I’m pretty sure they weren’t too pleased with Congresswoman Johnson and her scholarship give-away. All of the time she has spent in congress and she gets caught with her hand in the scholarship jar?? Why don’t these black politicians know better? They were sent to Washington to make sense of the political machine not to become influenced by it. The dope boys aren’t the only ones out here hurting the community. She must really think the people in her district are stupid. Wait until parents realize that their children missed out on scholarships because of some trickery. I’m also sure that ignorant black folks will talk about how the “white man” is plotting against blacks in congress. Well I have bad news for all my black nationalists out here in internet land. No need to blame the white man for this one. Johnson was wrong and she needs to face whatever repercussions come from this illegal activity. My personal suggestion – do the citizens of Texas a favor and retire immediately!!!!!!!!!!!

Everyone wants to be President of the U.S. No, not our current President though, just President.

It’s painfully obvious that television pundits were not pleased with President Obama’s Oval Office speech last night. I guess he didn’t say what they wanted to hear. But that’s the downside of being president. You can’t please everyone and you never will. There are 3 basic camps in the U.S. when it comes to Obama’s job approval.


-People that think Obama isn’t doing enough.

-People that think Obama should do more.

-People that think Obama can do no wrong.


Side Note: You want people in the last category around you if you are a criminal. They are large supporters of the stop snitching campaign.


This BP (once called British Petroleum but now they want to down play their oil roots….um yeah right!!) mess has put Obama’s leadership skills on display for everyone to pick apart. Can Obama control the oil companies or do the oil companies make the rules? Can Obama get Congress to sign off on regulation to move us beyond oil? The questions go on and on. And to add fuel to the fire, (pun not intended) we are still fighting a war that started 9 years ago. General Petraeus spends his days planning war strategy in the (HOT “A”) desert and he gets dehydrated at a Senate hearing? Are we ready to bring the troops home yet? And bringing up the rear is Glenn Beck with his daily critiques on Obama. Beck says Obama doesn’t want to meet with the BP CEO because he is a white man?!!? You may now insert the sound of *crickets* here.


Even random folks are now stepping up to show Obama up lend Obama a hand with his most pressing issues.


Regular Random Dude - Gary Brooks Faulkner, a 50 year old petty criminal, was arrested near the Afghanistan border. When the Colorado resident was apprehended, they found a pistol, a sword, night-vision equipment and Christian religious books on his person. No he wasn’t auditioning for the Middle Eastern version on “Clue.” Faulkner was on a mission to track down Osama bin Laden. Family giving their opinions on Faulkner, said he wasn’t pleased with the Government’s progress in finding Osama. I thought that he was just doing it for the $25 million reward. Because he is a crook I understand the night-vision equipment but why a sword? Only Pirates and Ninja’s carry swords? Faulkner, get your Rambo together and then give it another shot.


Famous Random Dude – Who knew Kevin Costner had machines that separated oil from water? They don’t even have that a “Subway.” Yes, that is right, the movie star Kevin Costner. You would have never guessed that Costner was into the process of centrifugation. This guy was once one of our biggest movie stars. He was in some of America’s biggest films (we’ll gloss over “The Postman” and "The New Daughter”). He was even Whitney Houston’s love interest in “The Bodyguard.” For those that don’t remember, that was the “before the drug use got out of control” Whitney Houston. I guess somewhere along the line he went into the oil scooping business with his scientist brother. Now Costner is testifying and selling his wares in order to provide relief to the Gulf. If I was Costner, I would sell machines with an autographed copy of “Dances with Wolves” in High-Def.


I think Obama gets bothered by some of the criticism because he thinks it’s unwarranted. I personally believe he would do better by firing all of his communication folks. They do him a complete disservice. I actually think he should fire some more people but you have to start somewhere. Obama has an image problem when it comes to the BP spill. Some black folks won’t admit it but others will. People are coming out of pocket because they don’t feel issues are being handled. Obama needs to let people know that he is in complete control. I know that “the angry black man” issue always comes up but we have to get passed that. Lord knows it’s good to have a person in control that is calm under fire. But would it be so bad to see Obama flare up on someone? I would if I was president. But then again, I'm only monday morning quarterbacking like everyone else.

Bobby Jindal needs a personality transplant. He seems like a nice enough guy but so is the guy that delivers my mail. His response to Presidents Obama’s speech put me to sleep. He sounded like he was reading a bedtime story. Typical Republican responses... pull yourself up by your boot straps, bad Government, etc etc. It’s hard to pull yourself up when you aren’t wearing boots. What I don’t like about the Republicans is that they are in denial. I always said that they have an image problem. They don’t know how to connect to certain groups in our society. There are groups that they don’t even try to connect to. Gov. Jindal shouldn’t be all that proud to use the response to Hurrican Katrina as an example of how Government can fail you. Citizens were left for dead by a slow Government response. The head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency was unqualified and out of his league. People still haven’t been able to rebuild their homes. Not to mention that the city had crime and educational issues before the water came. Gov. Jindal is the same guy that wants to turn down unemployment benefits. And this is because they are in the stimulus package. I know he has political aspirations but come on dude??? People are out of work and losing their jobs. The Republican response to all issues: Tax Cuts For The Wealthy….

I didn’t want my blog to be a cheering section for Obama. Sure I voted for him. But I also changed from Democrat to Independent because of the 2008 campaign. I want to hold all politicians accountable. On some issues I am liberal….moderate…..and conservative. I just can’t see myself as a Republican. The black Republicans that they have seem so removed from the daily lives of most black folks. Because we are all black doesn’t mean we should always agree. But there has to be some common ground…….somewhere!!! Pandering to the far right does not impress me. It actually turns me off. The Republicans need to stop bragging about being the party of Lincoln. They also need to stop bragging about how far the country has come with the election of the first black president. After running all those race baiting ads during the 2008 campaign. They don’t have the right to be proud of this moment. The American people are hurting right now and they need help. They can’t pull themselves up by the bootstraps to get out of this one. Yes American citizens will need to make sacrifices. But ultimately the Government will come up with the plan to get us out of this mess.
