Jim Tressel Suspended
So, my prejudice against Ohio State may come out a little bit in this, but does anyone else think that Jim Tressel's punishment is the most worthless punishment you ever heard of? Accused of knowing that his players were receiving improper benefits, he got a 2 game suspension and a 250,000 dollar fine. Oh...and he has to make a public apology.
So let's consider this. Jim Tressel signed a 7 year, 17.6 million dollar contract. That combined with all the BCS Bowl Game bonuses and I'm fairly sure he's not going to miss $250,000. And the 2 game suspension? Give me a break. Marshall and Miami (FL) both at home? I guess Miami could potentially cause problems since OSU will be without 5 of it's starters.
But let's not forget the public apology...
I thought improper benefits was a serious offense. Wasn't that what Reggie Bush was accused of? Didn't he lose his Heisman? Didn't USC forfeit all wins during his years their? And Ohio State, who has 5 players accused of this gets a few suspensions. Maybe their offenses weren't quite as bad as Reggie Bush and USC, but this seems like barely a slap on the wrist when the NCAA has a reputation for for being overly strict for these things.
