As of today at 1800 GMT+1, Klm stated that they had preliminary talks but were no where near to closing the deal. source. www.nu.nl

I allready posted that, but everyone seems to be overlooking this fact (including you :P)

    So, this time in bold:
People, one of the airlines mentoined has denied the deal, so it's not sure if it is true!

    2) Who paid for the coffee? :D

Eric: Wow, Steve. Thanks for buying coffee. What is this?

Steve: It's a magical blend of coffee and flavorings that I special order. It's my own idea. Taste it.

Eric: Delicious! This is your idea? No kidding? It's amazing!

Steve: I'm glad you like it.

Eric: Someone could make a lot of money selling this.

Steve: We're going to start selling it in the Apple Stores next month.

    Eric: Really? What's in it?

Steve: Well, here, Eric. I can trust you. I'll write the list of the ingredients down for you.

    Eric: Oh good.

    Steve: And Eric?

    Eric: Yes, Steve.

Steve: If Google introduces their own special coffee blend next month, I'll chop your _____ off.

    Eric: Um...

Steve: I'm serious. Snip! Snip! Gone.

Eric: Uh... okay, then... um, never mind the list. Thanks anyway.

Fantastic. Apple should have Thunderbolt across most of their Mac line by the time this comes out on the iPhone 5/iPad 3, and most new PCs will have USB 3.

Super-high-speed syncing, plus possibly external devices due to Thunderbolt's daisy chain ability?

It could make an iPad/iPhone accessories market of Thunderbolt devices that pushes adoption...

Likewise, a 800MHz G4 is very comparable to a 1.8 Ghz P4. The important thing that I see in this ranking is that in perusing the rest of this website, the people who came up with these ratings do not look to be particularly Mac friendly.

Based on this, I would have to disagree with your assertion that "the g4 cannot beat the p4 in performance", unless your only criteria for performance is sheer GHz speed. It seems to me that at the high end, the two chips are at least competitive, and in the middle of the pack, I would say that Macs are a better buy.
I wouldn't say that 800MHz G4 would match 1.8GHz. Notice the 1.25GHz they used is *DUAL* processor 1.25GHz. Maybe *DUAL* 800MHzs.

    Hi there

    I have a late 2009 Mac mini (3,1) with a 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo CPU.

I recently upgraded to 8GB RAM and would like to put in a Solid State Drive and a CPU upgrade.

I was wondering if anyone can help with answers to the following questions, or share their experiences?

    - Is it possible to replace the hard drive with a Solid State Drive in this version of Mac mini?

Call or email the news desk or the editor.

    Thanks.

I looked at some of the contact pages on the newspaper websites. Couldn't see what department would apply to what I'm looking to do. I'll give the news desk a try. Thought that was just for submitting a story to them but I suppose asking them about covering an event might fall under that category too.

    Thanks again!

I'm tossing up between Regent Street and Bluewater. BW is closer for me, but Regent St is the flagship store. The BW has a sign up already stating that it is going to close at 4pm to get ready for the launch at 6. I'm sure that will give enough time for the crowds to gather outside.

I am tempted to pop up to London and make a day of it. Being a trainee teacher I'm on half term at the moment. If the release got pushed back to November I'd have been pretty peeved.

I'll have an Incase back pack on if anyone wants to find me.

    1. its obvious you have never used android
    2. the xoom is an excellent device. those stating they think that having a dedicated tablet OS is silly is kidding themselves. How can you consider yourself a "power user" and be tripped up by honeycomb? Seriously, can you only operate touch screens' with grids? I would would submit facebook has a tougher learning curve than honeycomb, but stop with the comments already, 2.2/2.3/3.0 are very well done OS's
    ...

Yes yes yes, they're all just awesome OS's and the buying public really seems to be dedicated to all the sweet flavors of these many sugary-named, fragmented platforms. Anyway...

    knock-knock

    WHO'S THERE?

"a true tablet OS blah, blah, blah."

A TRUE TABLET OS, HOW CAN YOU TELL?

"there are not enough applications made for me to even arrange in a grid!"

    :)

YOU WILL GET DIFFERENT IMAGES IF YOU USE A 200mm EF Lens on a 7D (APS-C) and a 200mm EF-S lens on that same camera due to the FOVCF

Go and try it and come back...

    Edit to add:

Here is a great little one page explanation of EF vs EF-s (http://jefflynchdev.wordpress.com/2009/01/10/understanding-canons-ef-s-lenses/). I quote from it:

Canon EF-S lenses are designed specifically for the 1.6x FOVCF DSLR bodies but still require the same 1.6x crop factor to be applied as the standard Canon EF Lenses to get the equivalent field of view comparison. Again, this is because the physical focal length of the lens is the same, regardless of which camera it’s mounted on.

Which, once again, agrees with me.

    KentuckyApple -
Unfortunately, her PC only has a CD drive, so I cannot do that. I will look into getting Dave. I'm buying extra Ethernet cables anyway, to network all the computers and the DSL modem.

    Voicegy -
If an Apple store would do it, then I'll buy from them.

    Pianojoe -
If I had a firewire hard drive, that would be my first choice. Unfortunately, I don't, and I don't have enough other uses for it to justify buying one.

    Everyone -
    Thanks for all the help.

Does anyone know if Target is price matching or is expected to be following suit with their own reduced prices? I have a hefty credit with Target that I would very much enjoy using on purchasing the original ipad at the new verizon price.

A little off topic, but question for those who need Office software, and also run Parallels/Fusion: Do you prefer Office For Mac, or do you prefer to run "regular" Office in Parallels/Fusion? Thanks.

I unplugged everything and that made it work.

    Network Cable
    USB devices (3)
    Firewire400 (1)
    Firewire800 (1)

I didn't think to unplug them one at a time to control for where the problem was. Oh well. If your drives comes out and snaps back in right away without updating the firmware. Remove all devices before rebooting.

I purchased the App to compare it to Navigon and TomTom. While the app is fairly new, you would have to wonder how much testing they did before submitting it to app store.

I would say the app has some potential but needs a lot of work. No need to name all the issues since they are obviously already mentioned in the thread.

As of now, my trust with an Iphone GPS App would have to go to TomTom. ;)

I'm hoping one of the super secret features is a completely reworked Finder. While I don't think it's a deal-breaker by any means, I have to agree with those who say that the Finder is generally sluggish in ways that it should not be. I have a Windows XP box on my desk next to my G5 and XP's windows and menus are lightning fast and immediately responsive. Further, icons and file lists are pulled up instantaneously. With the Finder on the G5, there's always that little pause or the list of files take a second or two to show up or icons take a while to load. There's no reason Apple shouldn't be equal to or better than XP's interface, but it's not. It's the one area where Apple hasn't quite nailed it.

Still, I would take OS X over XP any day, but it sure would be good news to me to hear a fully revamped Finder with all these slowdowns ironed out.

I didn't say it was wholly genetic, nor do the authors of the book to which I linked. However, to accept without question that we inherit a myriad of traits from our parents (hair color, eye color, height, predisposition to certain diseases, the list goes on) but discount intelligence from that group is foolish in the extreme.

Of course intelligence has a genetic element, and not everyone is equal. However, your intellectual potential may be limited by your genes but you need the correct environment to achieve that potential.

Is it that certain races have a lower intelligence? Or is it that certain races don't get the opportunity to achieve their potential due to their environment?

The problem with IQ tests is they depend on culture and education, they are not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. I bet an IQ test of 10 year olds in down-town Bagdad would yield lower results to a test in a the suburbs of a US or European city. Clearly this is an extreme example, but it is hard to get a level playing field to assess intelligence in different people.
