Why the hell do you have to have a miniUSB for a phone in the EU?
what is wrong with just using a apple dock connector?? Apple is NEVER going to put a miniUSB port but they may make an adaptor for the idiots who want one (for what I ask)

don't ask me! ask the EU about it. i don't make the regulations. but i can tell you this, they want a standard port for charging purposes and data transfer, so that you have to deal with fewer cables. it's not a bad idea, if you think about it.

Well windows for killing is one thing, Microsoft are well known to be evil but mac for killing? Either way I don't care what the end use is if the US army take apple on i'll be put of buying Apple stuff. It's purely political!
So I guess you will just live off the land from now on to grow your own cotton for clothes vegetables for food? You will abandon all technology including the internet (originally a military project).

As much as it pains me to say this, I agree with kdarling. Virtually every product you consume and every technology you use on a daily basis is also used by the US military and/or was originally invented for military use. Google maps was funded by the CIA when it was called Keyhole.

Have fun living off the grid.

Engadget points ( to a new video posted ( on Vietnamese site apparently claiming to show a white iPhone 4 running a "test version" of iOS offering Expose-like multitasking that allows users to select running apps from a grid of nine screenshot thumbnails. You can tap on a window to expand it (replete with animation) to fill the screen or long-press on it to bring up the familiar "x" button for shutting it down. This is all accompanied by a new "Search iPhone" dialog at the very top, which sends you into Spotlight search that looks very much the way it currently does (though it seems to no longer be accessible with a left swipe from the first homescreen as on previous versions of iOS).While the apparently all-white home button and a passing similarity of the multitasking feature to the jailbreak tool multifl0w ( suggest that this could simply be a customized iPhone 4 running jailbreak software.

But a second video posted to the same YouTube account and noticed by 9 to 5 Mac ( offers more detail of what may in fact be a prototype iPhone. The device in the second video may be different than the one in the first video, as the second one seems to have a more standard white home button with black square inside.

The second video clearly shows an "XX GB" marking on the back along with a number of "X" placeholders in model identifiers, common for prototype devices. A walkthrough of the "About" screen in iOS shows, however, that the model carries 64 GB of storage.

Interestingly, a partial glimpse of the iOS build number can be seen as the "About" screen is shown, and the device appears to be running iOS 4.0 with a build number beginning with 8A as would be expected. Consequently, this does appear to be a test version of iOS 4.0 rather than an upcoming iOS 5 build, although Apple could of course choose to implement some of these features in future iOS releases.

The device also appears to contain several preloaded applications internally used by Apple for diagnostics, testing, and demoing, lending additional legitimacy to the claims.

What does you first sentence have to do with the second?

    Could you please elaborate?
If people are the greatest asset then paying people to diminish that asset is a very dumb idea.

True, physical plastic home button is very easy to get micro scratches which are pretty visible. Again, capacitive home button flush with the glass will not have micro scratches like on plastic.

The issue which arises now though is the responsiveness of capacitive buttons. As in maybe they lose responssiveness after a while.

Throughout the attempts to lay blame on parents, there is a bogus assumption that the 15 minute password time extension is obvious and/or that parental restriction ability is known or easy to use.

Millions of people buy the iPhone because it's supposed to be "intuitive" and NOT require reading a manual or spending time researching every Settings menu. (Just look at all the fanboys claiming Android is "harder" because it has more options.)

Not only are in-app restrictions buried in Settings where it's not quick to get to, but worse: in typical Apple iOS fashion there's no way to set a purchase option per app... it's only a global setting.

Since Apple is quick to refund such mistaken in-app purchases, even they have tacitly acknowledged that there is a problem.

So it's likely that a change will be made. If you were an Apple developer given the task to fix the problem, what would you do?

Why is everyone ragging on Facebook for this?

It's not as if they invented it.

Foursquare, Loopt and Gowalla have had these types of apps for many many months.
because it's turned on by default. it should be off by default (IMO) and then turned on as an option. many people aren't aware that Facebook's new "features" are almost always on when rolled out.
I'm sure you will be able to turn it off
I dont know what kind of CRAZY KILLER friends you all have on facebook. I only have relatives and close friends I see and talk to on a normal occasion.
and only share the info you want with the people you want.. its not that hard really

But yeah, why do people freak out about this? I usually see people updating their status with "i'm at the mall, movies etc?". I guess they have to panic now and go back and check in their homes to make sure no one is trying to break into their homes.

    Canada, you're screwed. :(
Oh please. If the NDP had got in then Canada would be royally screwed. The NDP has a poor record in a number of provinces of running the provincial governments into deep deficits and scaring away businesses.

I would take the opinion piece from someone with the Toronto Star with a little bit of salt. They are like the Huffington Post of Canada or a left leaning Canadian version of those British tabloids that they try to pass for "newspapers" in England.

I'm ashamed I work for them. I've always considered Target the "good guys" Wal-mart but the more I get a taste for their corporate side (retail as well as pharmacy) I'm less impressed day by day.

    I'm sorry.

I worked at that hellhole for 3 and a half years and it went towards the crapper with each passing day. I went on leave of absence for school, but didn't come back over the summer due to me having an internship elsewhere, and they sent me a letter telling me to either quit or come back, so I said goodbye.

Their business practices, while better than Wal-Mart, are nothing to be proud about either. Maybe if they spent more time improving the shopping experience and less time high pressuring customers, err, guests, for those god damn target visa cards, loss of DVD sales wouldn't be a problem

Wow this is big! I'm not sure but hasn't it been like forever since Mac had 5% marketshare? Over 5% must put them in the top 5 pc makers? Maybe top 3? This is already huge growth, if they get to 10% or more look out!
The jerks who make viruses for windows will take the time to make them for Mac which would suck:mad:
Great time for us Mac owners:D

    - No spam management
    - No full data set for the Address Book (still can't note bdays, etc.)
    - No iCal integration with a fully editable calendar

Yup, I mirror those complaints. There is spam filtering, but I personally have no way to change the settings, I'd like to make them a little more restrictive. One thing I notice about the Address Book is the way it ranks phone numbers for display. This was a problem in the old Webmail as well.

The new Address Book search in the mailbox window is cool, but when it displays the phone number, it only shows one of the phone numbers for the contact, and it doesn't let you choose which one. It ranks the numbers as 1. Mobile, 2. Home, and 3. Work. So if I want the work number to display for a contact, the only option is to not list a mobile or home number for them! Even worse, it doesn't tell you which one it's using, either. All them would need to do is add a faint (m), (h), or (w) notation like they do other places in Webmail.

I'd also like to see screen real estate used a little better. The bar with "Feedback" "Prefrences" and the language is a waste, moving those to buttons on the main toolbar would be better, and I don't need the top with the Apple site tabs, or the links to the other .Mac areas, either. I tried to remove them with Firefox but I got a blank area at the bottom of the window the same size then, so I didn't gain any usuable space, also this removed the only Logout button on the page.

I do really like the new webmail overall in the end. Much less clicking needed to get things done. But it does need some polishing.

And the lack of a web-editable calendar function is just dumb. I sometimes think of just paying the $20 a year fee for Yahoo Mail Plus to get rid of the ads and transfer everything over ot that. Their calandar is a real must have for me. And I would get more reliable email service, but I want IMAP access.

Edit: The bar separating the message list from the preview pane can be moved up and down, but the position is not remembered and resets after you log out or go to the address book.

There's a "Get Mail" button. I hope I don't have to push that to check for new messages anymore. I would expect an webmail system using "the latest technologies" to have an AJAX interface and retrieve new messages periodically on it's own without having to reload the entire page.

Microsoft has not beat Apple as far as a 64bit consumer OS goes. Name one consumer chip that is 64bit. Thank you. Carry on.

Also, I think NT is limited to 4 processors unless they have updated that recently. Clustering is not the same as a multi-processor machine. Unix scales better than NT, just deal with it. Apple could easily make a rack server that had 16 processors, with a kick arse OpenGL card and teach SGI a lesson. They don't have the market for that though...yet!

That's because there is no "L" sound in Japanese, and the "R" sound is what comes closest to the English "L" sound.

Is there something funny about that?
