Williams Breaks Jazz Fans' Hearts

It's been a rough couple of weeks for Jazz fans.  First, their Hall of Fame, and longest tenured coach, Jerry Sloan retired amidst rumors of a bust up with star point guard Deron Williams.  Additional rumors came out that he was kind of forced out in an attempt to keep Deron in the line-up next year when he becomes a free agent.  When I wrote about it then, I was worried that the Jazz would lose both Sloan and Williams, and lo and behold, Deron Williams got traded to the Nets.

I gotta say, the Jazz aren't looking too good anymore.  Last summer they lost All Star Carlos Boozer.  And then this year they lost the on-the-court leader in Williams and their off-the-court leader in Sloan.  Who's left?  Well there's still AK-47...Looks to me like the Jazz are officially in a rebuilding phase.

So what are the positives from all of this.  Well for all the talking that Williams did after Sloan left, it looks like he wanted out all along.  He was most likely heading out after the season, and if that's the case, the Jazz wouldn't have gotten anything for him.  But as it stands now they got, Derrick Favors, Devin Harris, 2 first round picks, and $3 million in cash.  Devin Harris is a decent point guard, certainly not the Caliber of Deron Williams, but he averages about 15 and 8 a game.  And Derrick favors is really only a back up power forward.  Utah fans though will be interested in the 2 first round picks, and of course the possibility of picking up Jimmer Fredette.

So, considering the fact that the Jazz were going to lose Williams and get nothing for him anyway, this was probably a good move.  What do you think?
